Taking a closer look at the dangers of being in law enforcement and knowing what has caused several deaths in the line of duty can help officers train more effectively to prevent more deaths in the future. This year, from May 13th to May 19th, thousands of police officers, law enforcement professionals, friends, family, and survivors, gather in Washington D.C for National Police Week. The Lakeway Police Officers' Association participated in the "Tip a Hero" event for St. Jude's Hospital. Local Law Enforcement, the Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Personell waited on tables at the local Chili's to raise money for cancer research. The TMPA (Texas Municipal Police Association) encourages you to vote YES on PROP 6. K9 Officer Cory, a Belgian Malinois from the Lakeway Police Department, was blessed earlier this month by the local church. There were plenty of people — and pooches — in attendance. While the ceremony was open to all local dogs in the area, Cory received a certificate to honor our local police department. Cory was accompanied by her handler, Officer Sheldon Banta.
